About the Centre

The Felicja Blumental Music Center and Library, formerly known as AMLI (Americans for a Music Library in Israel) Central Music Library in Tel-Aviv, was established in 1951 by the Tel-Aviv Municipality and the Ministry of Education. Its founders were well known Israeli musicians and musicologists. The Library moved from its old home to a new (and beautiful) building in 1996, dedicated to the memory of the pianist Felicja Blumental (a pupil of Karol Szymanowski, and dedicated of works by Villa Lobos, Penderecki and Lutoslawski).
The library collection includes approximately 85,000 titles of books on music and scores, 65 periodical titles, 18,000 records, 5000 CDis, videos, archival collections and a collection of musical instruments.
Among the most important notable collections are the archives of violinist Bronislaw Huberman, of composers Menashe Ravina and Yitzchak Edel, composer and cellist Joachim Stutschewsky, as well as the Felicja Blumental Collection which includes many rare editions of scores and recordings from the pianists personal collection. The library also has a collection of ethnic and European musical instruments. Many of these come from the collections of the late Prof. Edith Gerson-Kiwi, the late violin builder, Moshe Weinstein and others.
The music library has a circulation department that lends its collection of books, scores and recordings as well as a reference room, periodical collection, an audio-visual department and an exhibition hall.
Opening Hours of the Library:

Yiddish Workshop
The Yiddish Song Workshop‚ under the direction of Nekhama Lifshitz‚ is now admitting new singers. For details please contact Regina (0547621628) or Udi (0542026242). The workshop was founded 12 years ago by Nekhama Lifshitz‚ queen of Yiddish song. The aims of the workshop are to preserve Eastern European culture in general and Yiddish language and song in particular. Weekly workshop lessons are conducted privately by pianist and coach Regina Dricker‚ Nekhama’s right hand for many years. The lessons include voice training and study of Yiddish language and culture through the songs. Every year the workshop presents a number of song evenings or shows based upon different themes. Some of the performances‚ such as the evening dedicated to the Holocaust‚ are held throughout the country. This past year‚ which was dedicated to Yiddish poet Itsik Manger‚ we put on performances of ”The Megilah” [The Purimspiel] as well as a concert of Manger’s poetry and songs.
